Green Day at Niagara is an environmental event put on by the Niagara Environmental Corps (NEC) at Niagara College. The event plays host to various exhibitors from a number of industries with an environmental focus. Not only does Green Day promote student involvement and volunteerism to raise environmental awareness, but encourages students to engage in habitat conservation, ecosystem restoration, urban sustainability and environmental education projects on campus and in the Niagara Region.
This years concept is based around going “Back to the Basic’s” with a strong concentration of recycling, reusing, and reducing waste at the college and around the surrounding communities in the Niagara Region. The NEC and it’s student research assistance have been working hard over the last 2 months to include vendor’s specific to the event’s theme. Vendor’s such as Rainbarrel.ca have teamed up with the NEC to offer a special discount on rain barrels which are used to naturally collect water from any rain fall in order to supply planters, gardens, and flower beds with water instead of using a hose. A garage sale and used items swap will also be available for guests to bring any unused clutter that could be sold to or exchanged for other items.
The event will take place in the Niagar College Niagara-On-The-Lake Campus courtyard from 10 am – 3 pm and will include guest speakers, exibhitor’s, Skyhunter’s Birds of Prey, and an assortment of organic foods.
